This is our last morning in Huahine. We hop on the last flight to Papeete at 6:00 PM and then, immediately get on the Air Tahiti Nui flight to Los Angeles (the red eye). Right now, I am finding a few moments to post a final Huahine log in situ (alert: the beach bum blog will continue). We are nearly packed, have filled the little “French” car with l’essence, and have begun to clean up. It was very rainy again this morning at 6:00 AM but now it is clearing a bit so hopes for a final swim in the lagoon are alive.
Over the weekend we visited with friends and revisited some of our favorite places. Every beach bum needs a beach bar. We have one that is just a few minutes walk.
Called Te Tehara (by those in the know) or alternately The Huahine Yacht Club (by newcomers and tourists), we sat outside to enjoy a last fish burger avec frittes and sashimi.
We managed to sneak in under the happy hour time and thus, the large Hinano beers were just 250xpf ($2.70) from the tap. Marilyn waits with the coco ice cream as I take just one more photograph of a Huahine sunset.
After that we ambled up the beach to our own beach bar.
Then yesterday (Sunday) we hosted our final luncheon. Marilyn made her final and famous sfingune bread,
I made kabobs, cacik, and white bean salad, Lovina made a fruit salad,Dorothy brought a wonderful potato salad, Frederique brought a delicious pumpkin pie, and Marty brought wine. After lunch and before desert, we went for a swim. Well, Dorothy brought her desert with her into the water,
a slice of Fred’s pumpkin pie!
Marty floats around on her pink fritte (what we call the noodle if we are speaking french) and I of course look for the very friendly yellow fish.
Aaah.
Enough Huahine memories, I better get cracking and end this blog. I just heard Marilyn zip her suitcase closed. As we say in my extended family, PORK CHOP, HERE WE COME.
