Studio Visit, Sunset, Ukelele Lesson

Recently, we finally met Melanie Shook Dupre, an artist who has been living and working on Huahine since 1999. We visited her studio and the following are some images of the gallery on the motu where she shows work (you can also get a banana split there!) and paints every day. She shows in Papeete as well as in the USA.

Here’s is a work-in-progress that will soon be on its way to a show at the NY Public Library.

Melanie and Marilyn enjoyed talking about their work and Melanie’s journey to become a working artist on Huahine.

We particularly liked this portrait, part of a new series that Melanie is developing for a fall show in Papeete.

The day began with another rigorous ukelele lesson with Jimmy. Here I am returning from Fare in time for a swim.

I get some great looks, smiles and short conversations when I walk through town with Moe’s ukelele (which Jimmy says, is one of the best.)

The day ended with a rather spectacular light show over the lagoon.

  1. Moments agréables que vous rencontrez. Bon d’entendre que vous avez ces aventures merveilleuses. And the clouds are still spectacular!
